Finally, after years of planning and public hearings, the Route 111 bypass
through Salem, NH,and Windham, NH, and its connection to the Intestate
Highway System at I-93 , New Hampshire Exit 3 is under construction.
Bridge construction is easily viewed from Route 28 or Harris Road.

The first phase of construction includes a massive, six-hundred-foot,
$8.5 Million dollar sweeping-curved bridge over Flatrock Brook and Harris Road, just northeast of Route 28 in Windham.

Below is a side view plan of the bridge, looking in a southerly direction.

It's quite a formidible undertaking since most of it crosses wetlands.

A bird's eye view of the east and west abutments and three middle piers.

Civil Engineer, Conrad Skov sights the
subfooting of the
west abutment at the
west edge of
Harris Road.

This freshly poured
cement is the
sub-footing of the west
abutment.

Its thickness varies from just a few inches to several feet.

The subfooting is poured directly on the bedrock to provide a
solid and level building
surface.

 The framework for
the concrete forms
for the main footing begins on top of the
hardened subfooting
a week later.

Two weeks later:

Lots of rebar needed in
the massive abutments
of the new bridge.

This is looking south,
just a few feet west of Harris Rd.

Looking southwest toward Route 28 from Harris Road. The new road will pass directly through the former "blueberry patch" and cross 28 at the site of the former Windham Motel

 The east abutment,
nearly 600 feet
northeast of the west abutment.

The center section was
built first, then the
earth retaining wings
were added during September.
